In this introductory 2.5 contact hour workshop, preschool educators and caregivers will gain an understanding of the many benefits of yoga and mindfulness-based activities as it relates to educating and nurturing the whole child. Through interactive discussion and lots of playful, experiential practice, attendees will learn simple breathing activities, playful yoga postures, song and movement sequences, and games and relaxation techniques appropriate and engaging for children ages 2 - 5 years. YOGA & MINDFULNESS IN THE PRESCHOOL CLASSROOM
In this full day, 7 contact hour workshop, preschool educators will gain an understanding of the many benefits of integrating yoga and mindfulness-based activities in the preschool classroom as they relate to educating and nurturing the whole child. Through interactive discussions and lots of playful, experiential practice, participants will learn simple breathing activities, playful yoga postures, song and movement sequences, games and relaxation techniques appropriate and engaging for children ages 3 - 5 years while promoting social and emotional learning, physical health and well-being. Participants will learn the components of an effective preschool yoga class and how to develop their own lesson plans to support preschool curricula as well as how to use yoga and mindfulness breaks throughout the day as a prevention and behavior management strategy. A variety of recommended props, books, music and other tools that are effective in engaging the young learner will also be shared. Finally, the practice of mindful teaching will be discussed and will include several helpful, mindful practices for educators. With these tools, preschool educators will be empowered to create a positive, peaceful, productive learning environment as their students learn important skills for self-regulation that can be carried with them throughout their lives.
YOGA FOR BABIES & TODDLERS
In this full day, 7 contact hour workshop, caregivers, educators, therapists, and pediatricians will gain an understanding of the many benefits of integrating yoga play into the day. Discussions will include infant and early childhood development and education on how practicing yoga can support the social, emotional and physical development. Attendees will leave with tools to support early childhood development with yoga such as infant and toddler-friendly poses adapted for specific developmental stages, sequences for nap/bedtime, fussiness/colic, easing digestion, simple breathing activities, playful yoga postures, song and movement sequences, and best practices for teaching babies and toddlers.
YOGA & MINDFULNESS FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
During this full day, 7 contact hour workshop, educators, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, school counselors, caregivers and others who work with children and teens with special needs will learn how the practice of yoga can benefit children and teens ages 4+ with a wide range of diagnoses and physical and developmental disorders such as Trauma, Anxiety and Depression, ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorders, Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Down Syndrome. During this introductory workshop, participants will be empowered to facilitate individualized, group and family programs, sharing appropriate breathing and relaxation techniques, as well as posture modifications using chairs and other props. You will also learn effective methods for encouraging cooperation, building community and developing social skills. NOTE: It is recommended that trainees have a minimum of one year yoga experience.
TRAUMA INFORMED YOGA & MINDFULNESS FOR CHILDREN
This introductory one-day 7 hour workshop for educators, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, school counselors, caregivers and others, will present information on the two main types of trauma experienced by children, the basics of the neuroscience of trauma, signs, symptoms and common misdiagnoses, how to make your classes more trauma-informed, how yoga can be part of the healing process and provider self-care. An introduction to the ACES Inventory, yoga-based activities found to be particularly beneficial for managing trauma and suggestions for making your yoga classes and other interactions with children safe and comfortable for children who have experienced trauma are included. YOGA & MINDFULNESS FOR YOUTH ATHLETES
What exactly is an athlete? Clarify language as well as best practices on gaining athlete, coach and parent buy in for integrating yoga into a training regimen, enhancing traditional athletic training with mindfulness and yoga philosophy, incorporating team building activities, and developing anatomy focused sequences designed to support the needs of athletes. This interactive one-day workshop for PE Teachers, Coaches, Parents, School personnel/Administrators, and yoga teachers/studio owners will include group discussion, facilitated brainstorming, small group activity, sport-specific lesson planning and experiential practice.
Attendees will receive an illustrated packet of activities and sequences covered in the workshop, continuing education suggestions for further study and training, and a list of helpful resources and materials, many of which are available in the ChildLight Yoga boutique.
Certificate and Continuing Education Hours:
Participants will receive a certificate of completion that can be used to procure continuing education credits or hours through their respective credentialing organizations (please check with your credentialing org). Workshop hours are valid for Yoga Alliance CE's.
